Double-Headed Espresso Tamper and Distributor by MATOW
Take your Breville skills and style up a notch with a professional, dual-head portafilter leveler and tamp.
Do justice to your brew. Level, evenly distributed grounds are an essential first step in achieving the perfectly packed basket of fine ground espresso. Twist the 3 leaf clover dial side down 3 times to evenly disperse the grounds. Turn your tool over and use the flat base palm tamper. Packing the grounds tight creates the right amount of pressure for a proper espresso pull.
The adjustable height of the distributor allows some control over depth of your pack (*remember – a full basket is required to get a tight pack and high quality pour. If the basket isn’t completely full the tool will not reach your grounds. For best results, groom the top of the basket with a flat edge before leveling and tamping).
Use the distribution/leveling side to evenly distribute the grounds in your portafilter, then flip to the adjustable tamper side for a uniform tamp, every time.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
STEP 1 – Load your portafilter basket with the desired amount of freshly ground coffee.
STEP 2 – Retract the distributor side to it’s shallowest depth, and place the distributor on your portafilter, blade side down.
STEP 3 – Gently spin the distributor until your coffee grounds have been evenly distributed and leveled. If the distributor does not reach the coffee, adjust the depth accordingly. Note: you do not want to be applying heavy pressure to the grounds at this stage — only enough to level the coffee in the basket.
STEP 4 – Flip the distributor over and extend the tamper (flat side) to its maximum height. Tamp your grounds to your desired pressure.
STEP 5 – For consistent tamping every time, adjust the tamper depth so it matches the depth of the tamp you created in Step 4.
☑53mm Adjustable Distributor & Tamper-53mm base designed to work with the tapered Breville 54mm portafilter baskets, including the Barista Express, Pro, Touch, Bambino Plus, Infuser and Duo-Temp Pro.
☑Consistent Brew- Get consistent distribution and pressure every time making it easy to pull your perfect shot right at home, Leveling your grounds before tamping creates a uniform and consistent tamp.
☑Adjustable Depth – Set your desired tamping depth for consistent tamping pressure every time.
☑Dual Head- Distributor/Leveler and tamper are designed in one, double sides are available.
☑Pro Tips-Ensure your portafilter basket is fully dosed with coffee grinds to get the right amount of pressure from the tamper for a tighter pack and richer flavor. For best results, groom the top of the basket with a finger or flat edge before leveling and tamping. Brew with good, filtered water.

A Must Have for Coffee Lovers
I stumbled upon the 53mm Coffee Distributor & Tamper on Amazon a few months back, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer for my morning routine! As a coffee enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for tools to up my coffee game, and this one definitely delivers. It’s super easy to use. The 53mm size fits my portafilter perfectly, and the distributor evenly spreads the coffee grounds, ensuring a consistent extraction every time. And the tamper it’s like the cherry on top gives that perfect amount of pressure to create a smooth, even surface. The build quality is top-notch too. Despite using it daily, it still feels sturdy and looks as good as new. Plus, cleaning is a breezeHonestly, I can’t imagine making espresso without it now. If you’re serious about your coffee, do yourself a favor and grab one of these. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent weight and adjustability
The entire leveler is solid metal, and makes for an attractive and premium feel in the hand. Being able to use this in my espresso workflow makes for easy and quick leveling for high yields when I have guests over and no time to WDT or focus on puck prep. I simply dose directly into the portafilter with a pre-dialed time on my grinder, level out, tamp, and dispense. Very easy to use and a no-brainer for productivity. I use the IMS Precision 18-22 g filter basket, and it is a perfect fit.

Let me show you how to prep your espresso
Too many bad video reviews. Let me show you.Any product for espresso should a) reduce variables in your workflow b) make you happyBy reducing variables, it has the effect of making your espresso workflow faster while also improving control over your espresso. For example, this tool reduces error on tamping too deep or too shallow, as well as variability of the ole twist-and-tamp method for distribution.Simply use the clover side and turn clockwise, spin spin spin, just have fun with it. Flip this device over, and press your palm to tamp with the flat side of this device pressing into the coffee. To calibrate the depth of this device, tamp normally with your normal tamper. Then, take this device at max length, and gently (don’t press) rest it on the tamped espresso. You’ll notice how much extra steel is showing, and calibrate this device shorter and shorter until it fits to your tamp depth (there is no extra steel showing).Congrats, you’ve now calibrated your device to your previously manual tamp depth. Over time you can increase or decrease your tamp from this new baseline you’ve established. Again, it’s all about limiting variables. This device is second only to a funnel.I highly recommend a funnel to keep messes out (and to keep my 18g of beans in). The funnel seems silly, until you realize you’re wasting 1g of beans all over your workspace and that it’s adding variability to your grind size calibration given all other variables are the same for your chosen beans (finer grind size = more pressure).Use fresh roasted beans (1-3 weeks old), if you can, and don’t change beans too often unless you’re willing to recalibrate your grind size. Given you’ve listened and your ONLY variable is your beans, it’s easy and quick to change between different beans, but you may have to sacrifice one shot while you adjust the grind (your pressure gauge should be at ~12 o’clock, or if you don’t have one shoot for 20-25 seconds of steady trickle).Reduce your variables, and enjoy!

Measure carefully!
These are very well made, but itâs important to measure your machine very carefully because the crafting is very precise.

Must have for beginners!
I have a Breville barista and was having a hard time hitting the right pressure for the espresso range specifically for the double. This tool has changed all of that because it helps me evenly distribute and even out all of that coffee before itâs tamped. I also really like the palm tamp because itâs so much easier to get even pressure. The only thing I wish I knew is what height to set them up. I just guessed and itâs been working fine for me. Itâs heavy duty. A really great tool. Definitely worth it if you are new to espresso and trying to master the craft. Itâs giving me a lot more consistency with my espressos. I can finally make them for my friends because I know they are going to turn out. Now, I still canât steam milk to save my life and every latte I make somehow turns into a cappuccino, but I digress. ðð

Step up your Coffee GAME!
I was on a mission to improve my coffee production skills, starting from sourcing the best beans that suited my taste. However, what truly made a difference was not just the quality of the beans, but also the meticulous steps I took in the entire process, from grinding to extraction, aiming to achieve the best possible pour.Initially, I didn’t use a tamp for about 3 months after getting my Breville machine. However, the moment I acquired the tamper and used it to apply the right pressure, it significantly enhanced the extraction process, resulting in the best possible flavor from the beans and the machine. In my experience, the biggest factor that can ruin a good extraction is inconsistencies in the grind, and particularly in the tamping. If the tamping is too compact, it yields a bitter taste and insufficient extraction. On the other hand, if it’s too loose, the extraction is inadequate.I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to brighten their mornings with a good espresso! The product itself is sturdy and has a satisfying weight. The quality is fantastic, and I love the way it feels in my hands. It has seamlessly become a part of my everyday routine.

As you see from the video, it does a great job at leveling, bwcause I canât get quite a strong tamp (itâs at its max setting), I follow up with a second tamp from my breville tamper (came with machine). It does give me consistent results from a level puck, finally getting the hang of getting a proper shot (25-35 secs)! Itâs heavy and sturdy. Fits my Breville 54mm portafilter.Update: Iâve since adjusted my dose (18g), so now able to use the tamp consistently.

I am relatively new to espresso machines. It is well recognized how important proper and consistent tamping is. I did purchase a calibrated tamper a while back which really improved for my espresso making. However, on reviewing multiple articles online I noticed how many professionals talked about the importance of distribution. This device markedly improved distribution and decreases the amount of mess on my counter. As well, providing you are dispensing the same amount of coffee into the filter (I do recommend using a scale) once this device is calibrated and set there is no air, whatsoever on the amount of tamping that is accomplished by pressing on this device. This has resulted in a marked improvement in the consistency of my tamping and the taste of my espresso beverages! I mentioned it seems a bit expensive but the workmanship and materials are high grade and once the device is adjusted it is easily locked in place and there is no risk of the setting changing unless you want to make another adjustment. This one device handles excellent distribution and consistent tamping pressure. Definitely the best accessory Iâve purchased since I got my espresso machine. There are no instructions included in the package but there are lots of videos on YouTube if you do a search for the device. Would highly recommend purchasing this product â Iâve spent more money on less useful things!
