Great machine for the price
I purchased this machine in May, 2022, and thought I’d wait on submitting a review until there had been time enough to see whether it would make a reasonable return on investment. I’m pleased to share the fact that, for me, this was a great buy. My assessment is based upon the fact that 1) the machine has lasted 18 months and is still going strong; 2) it’s paid for itself several times over based upon the coffee consumption habits in my household; and 3) it makes a very good mocha or latte style coffee, easily as good or better than Starbucks, as far as I and my wife are concerned.More specifically, in terms of cost/benefit, I’ll share that in our household, we drink about three 16 oz mocha or latte style coffees per day, on average (excessive, I know). The cost of buying this much coffee at Starbucks or the local coffee stand would be approximately $25/day, including tip. The machine cost about $699 at time of purchase, and we’ve run, by this measure, about $13,500 worth of coffee through the thing. Sounds crazy, but $25 x 550 days does in fact equal a ridiculous amount of money spent on coffee.Plus, I think the frothing apparatus is ingenious: two pieces of plastic pressed together, which work quite well, certainly as well as a conventional wand frothing tool. Prior to buying the Phillips machine, we owned a Breville Oracle Touch Espresso Machine. The Breville is a large unit, fully automated, with all the bells and whistles. It costs about $3,000. We loved it for the two and a half years that it worked. Then it started leaking and we learned an important lesson about Breville products: you can’t get parts to fix Breville products locally. When I contacted Breville about the issue, I was told that I could pay them $500 and ship the machine back to them for repair (on my dime). They’d repair it, return it to me and provide a six month warranty. Yeah, I got a laugh out of warranty â real vote of confidence in their work. In any event, I decided to try the Phillips as a low-cost option and have really been pleased. Definitely an interesting compare and contrast with the Breville unit (which I do not recommend). The Phillips machine does have a few quirks, and there are a couple of changes to the unit I’d love to see. For example, the water supply is limited and therefore requires frequent refills. Similarly, the drip tray is fairly small and fills up pretty quickly. Also, the machine occasionally displays a warning that the drip tray needs dumping when, in fact, it does not. In these instances, I pull the tray out and wait for the warning to switch to the ‘no tray alert’ warning and then reinsert the tray. This said, the Phillips unit is easy to clean and maintain, and it’s relatively small and light. All in all, I highly recommend this product.

Good Stay-at-Home Alternative to Coffee Shops
My wife and I bought this machine about 2 years ago, and it has held up nicely over time. Itâs proven to be a simple, reliable alternative to going out to buy coffees and lattes from coffee shops, which is perfect since we work from home pretty much all the time. Weâve got 3 adults in our house and on average drink 5-6 total cups per day, and we so far havenât run into any major problems. One issue I had at first was that the coffee wasnât as strong as I was used to (I tend to like it pretty strong), but itâs still good coffee. You can make drinks stronger by adjusting how fine the grounds are with a little knob in the bean compartment at top, but I didnât start messing with this until very recently. You can only adjust in small increments while the grinder is active to avoid damaging it.This machine is good for guests who want to make and customize their own individual drinks, though there is a small learning curve for first-time users. Once they know how to use it, they often comment how cool it is, and some have said theyâd like to get one too (if it werenât so expensive).Maintenance is fairly simple: You have to change the water filter every few months, rinse the easily removable âbrew groupâ every week or two, and apply grease to it every couple months. The only problem I had was reinstalling the brew group for the first time (thereâs a little yellow switch on the side that needs to be in the right position). There was also one time we didnât change the water filter while the replacement light was flashing (it gave us plenty of notice; we just procrastinated too much), so we had to buy a special descaling fluid to clean it out before we could use it again.Yes, the machine can get loud, but I havenât met a coffee grinder or latte maker that was quiet. This machineâs noise level seems pretty standard to me.There are a few little tricks to using and maintaining the machine so that you can get the most out of it, but so do most machines like this. Overall, Iâd say itâs very easy to use and makes good drinks. The price is a bit high, and you also have to consider the added costs of buying whole-bean coffee and replacement water filters. But convenience like this often comes at a price, right? I would say it was worth it for us.

if you are considering this machine, I would like to share some of my experiences with you, pre-owner and new buyer. You might knew those tricks if youâve read the manual. my Little Summary of âPress and hold for 3 secondsâ with the following buttons under âPower Offâ are able to change some hidden feature settings â¦. suits EP3241/54 1) Aroma = Water Hardness Soft1>Hard4. 2) Quantity = Water Temperature Low>default>High. 3) Aqua = Activate Aqua-Filter. 4) Calc = Auto-off timer 15/30*/60/180mins. 5) Espresso = Restore factory setting. 6) Coffee = On/off panel Beep Sound. this LatteGo automatic espresso machine is super easy to make cappuccino under 3 mins from power On. and Super easy to clean up too. Itâs make noise but not really loud enough to wake anybody in the morning. Itâs gave me really fast, tasty and creamy espresso as always. if you knew how to use âBypassâ feature ⦠âPress and hold 3âs â on the âPre-ground/Aromaâ to bypass the grinder on Latte Macchiato can easily get âHot Milk onlyâ and same way to get âFoam Milk onlyâ on Cappuccino. so far, for the past 5 months I just have to refill coffee beans and fill up the water tank at the Front side when itâs empty. Do âMaintains itâ just take a minute to drain the drip tray and empty the bin after every use, and also took about 5-10mins to rinse the brew unit weekly. Wait 5 seconds to âReset the built-in counterâ when took out the Drip tray under Power On as always. Otherwise itâs will keep LED remind you to empty the bin after every 8-10 shots. The coffee spout is adjustable to fit most travel mug not taller than 16cm which is big plus to me. And all beverages are able to program itâs own quantity size from 50-250ml but at least larger than the default size. all details is on the manual. be cautious with the Aqua-filters, itâs needs to be fully filled water and lets bobbles completely out before installation, otherwise you may get trouble with the water intake cause by the air block.and the running cost, according to the manual that Aqua-Filter needs to be replace every 3 months or every 95L of water ( >1,000 cups), Itâs means I need to replace Aqua-filters x4 per year. Thatâs about 25cents per day for Filters and each shot of the 10g coffee beans cost about10-20cents. Total is just Less than $2 per day for me to make 6-8 shots espresso daily. (I like Melitta and Lavazza beans both not oily) Lastly, For the past 5 months I did once filter change already and did descaling once just follow with the Philips you-tube instructions step by step easily. the machine still works very great.

We replaced and upgraded. After a decade with the 2013-2023 Minuto, we knew it was time… we’d been looking… for about 3 years.Cons1. Quantities. The water container could be bigger, the size of drinks is regular (not grande) and the dispenser is too small for my Yeti. Meh… i got over it.2. Fit is close… measure first. Bean hopper is great (Stronger brew=finer grind) Water container is good but could be bigger and with the filter… may get annoyingly small.3. Break in period. Expect Meh coffee for the first 25 cups, its a long term relationship.4. No Favorite drink memory… but its easy to push a button or two to get what you need. But the pros.Looks great, its Quiet.. way quiet, Efficient… uses less coffee and makes rich rich brew, versatile, customizable in the settings, easy to service, Cleaning the Brew Group, the tray the grinds easy easy easy.I love it… not perfect but I think damn… good… Machine… See you in a decade.Paul

This machine is a bit difficult to review. If you live somewhere with good independent coffee shops on every street corner, you will not be impressed by the quality of the coffee or milk foam produced by this machine. But compared to a pod machine or instant coffee, it’s obviously miles better.Like most machines in this class, it does not brew light roasts well. The grinder is not good enough, and it doesn’t brew hot enough even on the highest temperature setting. But with a bit of tweaking, I get a decent cup from medium roasted beans, on the espresso / americano /cappuccino / mode with 3 strength, 1 water / milk, highest temperature setting, and the grinder slightly finer than default. Not amazing but decent. And the convenience can’t be beat. The frother makes ok, not great milk foam. The design is very clever though, and it makes it super easy to clean. There are better bean-to-cup machines but they cost 3-10x as much. One thing people get wrong with these machines is because they’re so automatic they don’t bother adjusting them. We have a much more expensive Jura machine at work but it makes worse coffee than my Philips at home cause no one ever bothered adjusting the grinder and brew settings correctly. Also, I got the guarantee extended to 5 years for free by registering the machine on the Philips website, which is nice.

The very first time we tried to use this machine it didnât work properly. Keeps saying we donât have a water tank in place or empty. Have to hold the water tank to get it to fully go through a brew cycle or it would shut down.Called Phillips 3 times and they just said they would repair a brand new 1000.00 machine. I didnât want a repair, I wanted a new machine.Found out after reading reviews even more than I disk before buying it that this is a well known issue with this machine. It happens so often that Phillips canât even keep the replacement parts for the issue in stock.Decided to return to Amazon. Sticking with Breville.
