The very best hand grinder today
Purchased after a ton of research, used primarily for filter coffee, manual espresso on weekends (primarily macchiatos)The k-ultra is a best-in-class hand grinder capable of excellently uniform grinds at a huge range of sizes.I upgraded from a Timemore C3 and immediately noticed a tremendous difference in my cup.This grinder is capable of achieving extremely chocolatey and extremely fruity cups with ease.It’s a hand grinder, so the best results aren’t as repeatable as an automatic, but the highs are higher and lows aren’t that low.Magnetic catch cup isn’t nearly as worrying as I thought it would be in person, (that’s not to say I haven’t managed to spill it.)parts are of high quality and easy to clean, disassemble, reassemble, and zero.the handle part does get slippery after only a little use but it hasn’t popped off during grinding for me, it’s just looser than I’d like, not an issue though.After a few months of heavy daily use, I haven’t noticed any deterioration of any of the parts except the aforementioned top bit.The K-ultra does its job grinding fine enough to dial in espresso, and coarse enough to dial in filter coffees. I’ve tried with everything from turkish to french press, (and everything in between except moka pot and siphon) and can confidently say it’s good enough for all methods. I’m sure I could get 2% more quality from a 2k+ automatic monster but I’m more than happy with this thing.It’s easy to crank and doesn’t take too long even for large doses of espresso.Although thanks to Lance Hedrick I’m slow feeding now which more than doubles the grind time (but OMG the clarity.)

Surpasses all expectations
When my wife and I started down the path to a perfect pour over we started with the Baratza Encore. It was a great entry grinder (still our day to day), but when we would pick up a fresh bag of beans from a new roaster, or just wanted to switch it up in the morning, or I wanted to brew a cup at work, it wasnât very convenient to clean out the beans or pack it back and forth in my bag.This was my second manual grinder, but itâs by a mile my favorite. It is really well made – solid build, tight tolerances, heavy, feels incredibly durable which especially matters for a portable grinder. Refined details like the magnetically attached catch cup, the very finely tuned grind size adjustment ring, the big wooden handle, the spring mechanism for folding the handle up, the way the grinding handle attaches magnetically, and how easy it is to disassemble and clean. I liked the inclusion on the brush and air bladder for cleaning. The whole unit is beautiful and I enjoy having it out in my office.For a small manual grinder with its ease of portability itâs still the grind performance that won me over. Perfect consistency in the grindings, and Iâve enjoyed being able to very easily fine tune the grind settings depending on the beans and brew method of the day. And it is incredibly fast. The resistance while grinding feels very manageable, never catches, and it takes about 30 seconds for a full 35-36g of beans.My only small ? is the amount of static I seem to generate. Itâs kind of hard to get the clinging grounds off the cup or the sides of the grinder, which makes more of a mess than I expected. Iâm going to try misting the beans to see if it helps.But thatâs my only negative. I love and highly recommend it.

Worth the price
I was using a timemore C2 grinder I also purchased from amazon. It worked very well. But when I purchased and started using the K1 ultra (may 2024) for my pour overs. Wow, the difference of taste of the same coffee between the two grinders are huge. The K1 ultra made a more complex and sweet cup of coffee the other hand grinder produced. It’s grind size range is awesome. I also use it to grind for cold brew. So easy, I just adjust, grind, then I can just go back to the grind size I was using for my pour overs. I haven’t tried it with espresso only because I have a dedicated grinder for that. But It is definitely worth the investment if you want to upgrade your grinder. Its been a few months of using it and I love it. use it every day.

Boaght this becuase I was tired of grinding espresso beans with other manual grinders taking up to 2 minutes and feels like a workout. Grinding 18g Espresso beans takes 30 seconds which is must faster than any manual hand grinder I’ve owned, lightweight and high quality grinder as usual from 1Zpresso, highly recommend for travel.

Estoy encantado con el molinillo, va igual de bien o mejor que los más afamados eléctricos, apenas hace finos y es muy regular en las mueltas. Además es muy fácil de girar, otros que tengo exigen un esfuerzo que este hace innecesario, es de muy buena calidad.Viene con una funda de viaje muy buena pero la verdad es que con el peso que tiene ya hay que tener ganas para llevárselo de viaje o si sales a comer en casa de amigos, mejor llevarte el café recién molido y listos.Muy contento con la compra.
