It really does Art
 I had a 3-in-one machine and knew it was time to upgrade when I saw the Delonghi Dedica Arte. Even though the Delonghi doesn’t have a grinder, I bought one that didn’t break the bank and the coffee is A1. First things first, the ease of use is truly there. It is straightforward to use. The steam wand has a great feel and I always steam twice after the milk for a cleaner wand. Other than the feel, the pressure is strong! Obviously, not to the level of a coffee shop machine but this is for the home and it is more than enough power. It is capable of pulling great-looking latte art. I am no barista, but even with my rookie skills, I can create art without it looking like polyps.
The portafilter it comes with is good but I had to go with a bottomless. In my opinion, shots taste and look better with the bottomless portafilter. In my past machine, shots tasted way too bitter and no cream ever came from it. I can taste sweetness and body in my coffee.
There is one minor problem I have with it, but I think I’m nitpicking. When I pull the shot and steam my milk, If I were to do another latte or cappuccino, I have to lower the temperature of the machine. This is done by releasing water through the steam wand, and it tends to be annoying when you have guests over. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes extra until you can pull another shot. Other than that, this machine is very very good and puts a smile on my face every morning.

Perfect for home espresso
I did a lot of reading before purchasing this espresso machine. I am glad I chose thing one. It has a small footprint on my counter and makes great espresso. It is very easy to use too.
The only issue I have had was if the grounds are ground too fine it will clog the portafilter which can be very frustrating. It has caused me to throw away an entire bag of coffee before because of it.

Used purchase attempt
Tried to purchase a used item to save money, item came with the water container cracked. Still held water but leaked. Made the first cup of cappuccino, everything went normal. The next cup would not do anything, hit the button, slight noise, very little dribble, then nothing. Watched videos about it, reset to factory settings etc. No luck. So started a return not due to the cracked water containers, but because the item did not function, and was charged a 26 dollar warehouse fee. Last used item I will ever try. The review of one star is not for the dedica, as I ended up purchasing a new model, its for the Amazon warehouse and the return policy.

Takes practice
Update:
I ordered some accessories from DeLonghi, including their âsignatureâ ground espresso blend so I could get a better sense of their idea of a perfect shot. I also experimented with non-dairy milks (also A2 milk which was gross btw). Iâm now using Califia Almond âBarista Blendâ with a drop of Pacific Foods hemp milk for added body.
Once my accessories arrived, my drink quality dialed up. The small steaming carafe is the perfect size for my single cappuccino. I didnât know they came that small!
Full disclosure: prior to having a proper steaming carafe, Iâd been using a small cup from my Japanese tea set to steam milk in (i knowâ¦) Anyway, Iâm using slightly more milk now but itâs totally worth it.
Iâm still perfecting my espresso shot: The signature ground tends me an over-extracted shot (I have found I can mitigate by using slightly less).
Today, I went back to ESE pod and it wasnât half badâI donât know if itâs just that I can see the thin line of crema better in my new glass cups or what, but at any rate, itâs certainly as good a result as I was getting with ESE pods in my previous machine.
I still find the steam function to be a bit finicky: The unit often switches from steam back to cooling for a shot before Iâm ready. The steam pressure and output also seems highly variable.
That said, after two weeks of adjusting to the new machine, Iâve finally achieved the desired result (see photo) and have decided to keep it.
TLDR;
Decent machine for a frothy espresso drink but be sure to buy a proper steaming carafe!
~~~~~~~~^^UPDATED ^^~~~~~~~~~~~
I promise to update this review as I tweak my espresso game but, so far, not so good!! This was an âupgradeâ from my previous DeLonghi EC155 15 Bar Espresso and Cappuccino Machine which is a surprisingly good little machine for the money (I probably could have kept that one going with a proper descaling but I reckon it served me up at least 1000 macchiatos so Iâd got my moneyâs worth.) I was tired of wiping the leaking water off the counter with that model, plus I thought it would be healthier to have a stainless steel portafilter vs aluminum.
Anyway, woke up this morning with high expectations of a smooth, flavorful cappuccino which were quickly dashedâ¦
Background: I used to order and grind my own beans (Kona) but have simplified my life in recent years and have been using ESE pods (after a brief stint with Illy capsules). This unit comes with a special pod filter which is super neato but so far (3 tries) Iâm getting watery under extracted shots. Iâve tried two different ESE pod brands so far this morning.
The bigger disappointment for me compared to my previous model is the steam function: I am allergic to dairy. I also prefer macchiato to latte (thatâs what turned me off from buying the Breville Bambino Plus because the minimal milk required is way more than I want or need).
The afore mentioned DeâLonghi gave me perfect control over steaming about 1.5 ounces of Pacific Brands Original Almond Milk in a small cup. The Dedica only has one steam setting (on or off) and doesnât allow me to adjust the steam pressure like the old model did. So, foamless and watery shots is all I got today 🙁
Iâm thinking Iâll be forced to buy another grinder and start learning how to dose my own shot which is a project I really wasnât trying to sign up for right now. On top of that, now Iâll have to experiment to find a new milk (maybe Iâll go back to hemp milk or see how far Iâd have to drive for some A2 milk around here).
Also, another review mentioned the âbear hugâ to lock and unlock the portafilter: that is real: I already learned to make sure the unit is off while locking the portafilter in place to avoid inadvertently pushing the brew button.
On the plus side, it looks really pretty and has a much more quality/professional look on my counter as compared to the cheaper model. (I already foresee a lot more polishing and wiping to keep that stainless spotless).
Delicious Coffee Easy to Use
One of the weird results of lockdown and working from home turned me from a once in a blue moon coffee drinker into a daily coffee drinker. I first used my Bialetti Mukka Express and was fine with my daily latte. I wanted to upgrade to a countertop espresso machine. I looked, looked, and looked not able to pull the trigger on an upgrade. Part of my issue was wondering whether the investment was worth it. I lusted for the Bambino or Bambino Plus because I needed something with a small footprint, but, the price stopped me.
The DeâLonghi Dedica line of machines looked attractive. Then came the latest, the Arte and available as a monthly payment. This seemed attractive just in case I did not like the machine. So, I pulled the trigger at long last.
Setting up the machine was simple enough. Making a nice coffee drink, also easy to use. The box contains a really nice tamper, 3 pressurized baskets. Steaming and frothing milk, you need a pitcher, not included (happily I had one). It took me a few days to adjust the heat of the water, the default on the machine was low. Once I adjusted that, made all the difference.
I did order a flat bottomed non-pressurized portafilter and am happy with it. It is not an option with the box contents. Two months in, I love this machine. It ticked all the boxes for me, makes a nice latte/cappucino, easy to use, small footprint, easy to clean/descale. I am very pleased with it.
The “Flying Kiwi”. –
For about 5 years I’d been using the expensive Breville Infuser (pictured) and getting “OK” coffee. Over the years the Infuser had lots of issues and I repaired it multiple times. Recently it produced an earth leakage fault so decided it was time to replace it & bought the De’Longhi EC885M. Sadly the 1st one arrived faulty – it would only pump water out the bottom onto the counter top – however Amazon promptly sent me another to replace it.
I am pleasantly surprised to find the coffee from this cheaper unit is way better than the Infuser ever was. It is definitely feels more more cheaply made but it simply does what its meant to without fuss and bother. It came with a tamper of some weight which works well. You can remove the plastic tray at the bottom so larger cups / mugs fit OK. (see photo#2)
The Steam Wand is a little awkward, it doesn’t move quite as far up as desired but it is still fit for purpose. (See photo #3).
Typically I would have eight (or so) triple shot coffees a day with the Breville, but curiously finding the taste of the coffee the De’Longhi makes is so rich and full I don’t need that many and am down to five or six a day. Currently using the Cafe William Corposo beans ground quite fine and getting a nice crema with the double filter in the Sump. (The sump is deeper than the Breville Infuser was also).
The coffee from this is richer and fuller tasting than the infuser ever managed. So for the price I am a huge fan. Consistently good coffee at a reasonable price.
